Dear Friend,

Will you join me in protecting the members of our community?

One of the most valuable assets to Silver Lake’s common good is the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department. As volunteers, we are not paid for our work, yet the Fire Department does incur expenses that are not included in the Village’s budget allocations. Some of these expenses include the purchase of new safety and firefighting equipment to replace items that are no longer serviceable or safe for firefighter use. By sponsoring fundraising events, we are able to keep department budget increases to a minimum, which in turn affect your village taxes.

This is where your help is needed.

Each year, the members of the Silver Lake Fire Department sponsor a number of fundraising events to aid in combating these operational costs. This year we are sponsoring our 2nd Annual "Baggo On The Ice" tournament January 28th on Silver Lake, our 2nd annual Pancake Breakfast at the fire station in April (Date to be determined), and our annual “Firefighters’ Festival” July 6th and 7th. The "Firefighters' Festival" is a family and community focused festival featuring events such as the Firefighters’ and Businessman’s Water Fights, a Baggo tournament, Street Dance, and a Duck Race on the Fox River

In order for our fundraising event to be a success, we rely on the generous donations of services, items, and cash from community and regional businesses, as well as Village residents. We’re asking you and your business to partner with SLFD to make this year’s fundraising event the best it can possibly be, especially given the difficult economic times being faced by everyone. Any tax-deductible donation is genuinely appreciated, and may be used in our raffles, races, or auctions. Donated items can be mailed directly to the firehouse, or for your convenience, you can contact the department to arrange for a volunteer to pick the item up.

I urge you to join me today in supporting the Silver Lake Fire Department, and the Village of Silver Lake. It is only with the generous support of residents and businesses alike that events like these are possible. If you have any questions, please call me at the firehouse. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

And come see me about becoming a volunteer firefighter!

Yours in community spirit,

Bill Brown

Fire Chief
